Sustainable development: challenges and opportunities

FromEcologyToMultidimensionalApproach

On September 25, 2015, UN members, including the Russian Federation, adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It contains a series of goals aimed at eradicating poverty, conserving planetary resources, and ensuring well-being for all. Each of the 17 Goals contains a series of indicators that must be achieved within 15 years.

The 2030 Agenda is a far-reaching plan for large-scale transformations, including 17 interconnected and inseparable goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development. It is important to note that this agenda is universal and applies to all countries.

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the joint efforts of not only governments but also business, civil society, and the inhabitants of the Earth are necessary.

During the conference “Sustainable development: challenges and opportunities” on 2-3 June 2020 following topics were discussed:

  • Sustainable development and global challenges of our time;

  • Opportunities for achieving the SDGs;

  • Experience in implementing the SDGs in Europe and Russia;

  • The environmental, economic and social dimension of the SDGs;

  • Dialogue between business, government, and civil society to achieve the SDGs.
